2 Grand Junction skiers caught in avalanche

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) – Authorities say two cross-country skiers were caught in an avalanche east of Grand Junction and one of them may have broken his legs.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s office says 35-year-old Seth Anderson and 40-year-old Ann Driggers were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital Wednesday evening after being swept by an avalanche in the afternoon in the Grand Mesa National Forest.

Sheriff spokeswoman Heather Benjamin says Anderson was injured but Driggers was not. Benjamin says the skiers used a cell phone to call emergency crews.

A search and rescue crew and a helicopter were dispatched to help.
