WINTER PARK — Online registration is now open for the Northwest Colorado Rural Philanthropy Days conference slated for Sept. 25-27, at Winter Park Resort.

The Northwest region for Rural Philanthropy Days represents five counties: Grand, Jackson, Moffat, Rio Blanco and Routt. Event organizers are hoping to expand the turnout this year, hosted every four years in each region throughout the state.

The 2013 theme for Philanthropy Days is “Making Tracks; Connecting past and building a future,” and packs a punch for the hundreds of nonprofits in the region, providing valuable trainings for staff and directors; forums with Front Range funders and government representatives about the region’s achievements and challenges; informal networking for face time with funders; capacity building workshops; inspiring speakers; and a new youth track.

Registration includes three days of meals, including a barbecue dinner at the Fraser Valley Sports Complex. Keynote speaker for the event is Jim Davidson speakingofadventure.com/.

Behind the scenes of Rural Philanthropy Days is the Community Resource Center, which has partnered with rural communities throughout Colorado for more than 20 years to increase their access to funding, relationships, and skill-building opportunities through the Rural Philanthropy Days event.

During the creation of the first Colorado Grants Guide in 1991, the Community Resource Center of Denver discovered that only 3 percent of the funds granted by Colorado private foundations were awarded outside the Front Range. Rural Philanthropy Days began in response to this disparity, with the inaugural event held in Grand Junction in 1991. The event has become the bridge to connect Front Range foundations with rural nonprofits. It provides an opportunity to build relationships and educate each other on the critical needs of our region. Since Rural Philanthropy Days’ inception, grant-makers have increased their funding of rural nonprofit organizations by 300 percent.

More than 250 nonprofits attended the 2009 Northwest Colorado RPD in Steamboat Springs, as well as 50 private and government funders. Local volunteers are needed to make the event a success.
