The passionate staff members behind Tame Wellness believe that the opposite of addiction is connection.

The Grand County nonprofit organization takes a different approach to mental health care by offering opportunities for connection aimed at individuals with addiction or dependence disorders and other mental health issues.

The nonprofit’s dedication to community mental health care is why readers voted it as the Best Mental Health Care organization in the 2024 Best of Grand contest.

Tame Wellness approaches mental health with compassion and connection rather than shame and guilt.

The organization was founded in August 2021 with the goal of providing a safe, supportive community for those in need of mental health resources and peer support.

Throughout the year, the mental health nonprofit offers sober activities, including art nights, talk groups, hikes, self-care nights, educational classes and more. During communitywide events, Tame Wellness will often organize sober spaces that offer a safe setting for anyone who’s recovering or wanting to cut back on drinking while still allowing them to socialize and enjoy community outings.

In addition to community events, Tame Wellness offers other individual support services, including recovery planning and personalized “one on ones” for people looking for individualized guidance.

Tame’s Executive Director Stephanie Pierce shared a statement saying that staff was “deeply honored” to be voted by community members as the Best Mental Health Care in Grand County.

“Winning last year was a proud moment, and being recognized again this year is a testament to our continued commitment to providing compassionate care and support to our community,” Pierce said. “We’re grateful for the trust and confidence placed in us, and we remain dedicated to making a positive impact on mental health in our county.”

Since the creation of Tame Wellness, Pierce has devoted herself to assisting those struggling with mental health, including individuals grappling with substance abuse, calling it “a heartfelt mission,” according to her staff profile.

Tame Wellness is a nonprofit, which means that many of the organized events are made possible through donations. Anyone who is interested in supporting sober activities and mental health support can donate at TameGrandCounty.org/donate
