The death of a young man discovered alone in a Granby apartment last week is still being investigated by local authorities.

The body of 21-year-old Preston David Geiger was found Wednesday, Oct. 17, in his apartment at The Lodge at Ten Mile Creek, which is the new apartment complex directly across Village Road from the Inn at Silver Creek.

“This unattended death is under investigation,” said Granby Police Chief Bill Housley. “There is no reason to believe at this point that foul play was involved. We just don’t know what caused his death.”

Geiger, originally from Bristol, Va., had been working as a ranch hand at C Lazy U Ranch. He reportedly had lived in the apartment only about two weeks prior to his death.

When he went missing from work without explanation for about a week, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and a deputy was dispatched to conduct a “welfare check” at Geiger’s apartment. The deputy discovered the body, but the case was then turned over to the Granby Police Department because the apartment is within its jurisdiction.

Grand County Coroner Brenda Bock reported that the cause of death is still undetermined.

“An autopsy was performed Saturday,” she said. “The results are pending a toxicology report.”

Local authorities have notified Geiger’s next of kin of his death.
