9Health Fair set for Oct. 3 in Fraser
The Fraser River Valley Lions Club’s “9 Health Family Fair” is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, from 7:30-11 a.m. at the Fraser Valley Elementary School.
The fair features free and low-cost screenings for children and adults, ranging from hearing and vision tests to dental, blood chemistry screenings and flu shots. Adults and children, regardless of income levels, are welcome to participate at the fair. Test results and lab results, with information about how to understand them, will be given directly to participants, who can then share their information or concerns with their personal health care providers who may recommend additional evaluation or treatment.
Screenings for children will include Colorado Lions Kidsight; Ask A Medical Question Get a Referral; blood pressure; hearing screening; HeartSmartKids Pediatric Cardiovascular; Height/Weight/Body Mass Index (BMI); and oral.
Optional available screenings for adults include Blood Chemistry (blood draw/$35), Blood Count (Blood Draw $20), blood pressure, body in balance, bone health, breast, colon cancer screening kit ($25), doctor referrals, first aid, flu shots, nutrition screening, and hearing screening.
Participants can also be screened for height/weight/body mass index (BMI), hemoglobin A1c (blood draw $30), oral health, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA – men only blood draw $30), pulse oximetry (measures the percent of oxygen in the blood), skin, vision and eye health, and vitamin D (blood draw $45). Charges may be paid at registration.
Blood Chemistry Screening (blood draw $35) is for adults only and provides baseline information about cholesterol, blood glucose, liver, kidneys, thyroid and more. Fasting is no longer required prior to the blood draw. Drink lots of water prior to the blood draw and continue to take regular medications. If you are diabetic, do not fast.
While you’re visiting the fair, you may also ask an on-site pharmacist about over-the-counter and/or prescribed medications, medication or vitamin interaction, medication safety and more.
The 9 Health Fair does not preclude your visiting your personal physician if you have one, but does provide information to share and discuss with your doctor.
