A new flower shop in Granby is bringing a little more beauty to Grand County.

Bear’s Bouquets is tucked away between other stores and shops at 62543 U.S. Highway 40 in Granby. The full-service florist specializes in weddings and events in addition to offering bouquets that are made daily and can be grabbed on the go. The shop also offers houseplants, books and other trinkets.

Owner Kay DiPace said the mascot and logo is based off her Bernese mountain dog, Luna Bear.

DiPace moved to Colorado from Maine with her partner in June. Because of differing work schedules, the two would often spend winters apart before deciding to move to Grand County together. Even though her partner works full time, he helps out with Bear’s Bouquets when possible. Additionally, DiPace’s 13-year-old son helps behind the scenes along with a single employee.

DiPace is armed with a green thumb and worked at a flower farm in Maine. It was on the farm that she cultivated a love for watching things thrive and grow.

“Flowers are so beautiful, and there are so many varieties,” she said. “I just feel like my connection with nature started really young. And through the years, I have leaned into what feels good.”

Before making the move to Grand County, she reckoned with what to do without her farm.

“Obviously, gardening in Grand County is not really a super feasible thing for you to just start doing without a ton of infrastructure,” she said. “So I was little bummed about losing that side of my life because I do love gardening so much. But I was like, ‘How can I translate this into something that I enjoy?'”

She then began calling farmers and florists in the area and found Margaret’s Garden, which needed help during the summer in Tabernash. DiPace began working at the flower shop and said the owner, Margaret Bergman, began to downsize the business as she got older. One day, Bergman offered to sell the business.

“She kind of was just like, ‘I really would like to retire, and I’d really love to sell this business to somebody,'” DiPace said. “So I agreed, and we basically bought Margaret’s Gardens and then just incorporated it into Bear’s Bouquets.”

DiPace offers the same services that were available at Margaret’s Gardens, plus a little more.

“We offer wedding and event design work and grab-and-go bouquets,” DiPace said. She added that staff members are happy to create a bouquet on the spot, as well.

The store gets requests for all kinds of events and occasions, according to DiPace, and Bear’s Bouquets delivers across the county.

Bear’s Bouquets strives to provide beautiful flowers for any occasion or event, both big and small. The shop’s owner works with individuals and whatever budget they might have.

Budget-friendly beauty

DiPace said she doesn’t want anyone to feel like they can’t afford beautiful flowers.

“I don’t want to price anybody out. And I also don’t want anybody to feel like they don’t have enough money to have something beautiful, even if you want something simple,” DiPace said. “I just want people to know that they can come here, and they’re not going to be judged.”

DiPace said she is willing to work within a customer’s budget and ensure people walk away with something beautiful, whether it’s a single bouquet or flowers for a wedding.

“You might not be able to get all the really expensive flowers, but there might be options that are different but still look the same,” she said. “You can still get something really pretty for whatever your budget might be or your event.”

With the holiday season coming up, DiPace expects orders to come in for holiday decorations, including tablescapes, mantle displays and more. Anyone interested in getting a floral display for the holidays can contact Bear’s Bouquets at bearsbouquets@gmail.com or 970-531-8127.

The store’s hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays. To keep up with store updates, follow Bear’s Bouquets on social media, including Instagram @bears_bouquets and Facebook at Bear’s Bouquets.
