Abandoned suitcase causes alert in Englewood
June 17, 2010
DENVER (AP) – An abandoned suitcase below a bridge at a light rail station caused an alert near Englewood Civic Center.
Police say the suspicious case was discovered around 6 p.m. Wednesday and that caused authorities to evacuate the civic center and a library.
The Englewood police said in a statement that the bomb squad “rendered safe the suitcase.” The statement did not provide any more details.
During the alert, RTD spokeswoman Daria Serna says the light rail was briefly closed, with buses ferrying commuters between West Evans Avenue and as far north as West Oxford Avenue, before trains were allowed to continue through the station but not stop.
