Accident victim warns consequence of drinking and driving

To the Editor:

I was involved in an accident on Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. on Highway 125, 1,000 feet north of U.S. 40. My car was hit by a high-speeding SUV going south. I could see him weaving down the highway. There was no time to get out of the way.

The driver’s side of my car was taken out, windshield, rear glass gone and rear door taken off. The other driver was charged with DWI and released the same day. I was in the ER for five hours in Granby. So, I wanted to say thank you to the ambulance crew, Colorado State Patrol and Granby police officer Dan Smith. My car was totaled.

What is ironic is that my window sticker said: “I Love Sober Drivers.”

So even with seatbelts and a big old Mercedes, you are still in jeopardy from drivers who drink and drive.
