Communities That Care off to a great start
February 8, 2017
The Grand County Communities That Cares (CTC) Coalition is off to a great start. Nearly 40 community members have agreed to serve on the CTC Community Board. This board will be the "work horse" behind this county-wide community effort. The Key Leader Board was established in November and will oversee the work of the Community Board.
Over the course of two weeks, board members came together at Granby Elementary to learn about the components of CTC: Prevention Science, Risk & Protective Factors, Social Development Strategy and Tested & Effective Programs.
The second session was dedicated to laying the foundations for how they will operate as a Community Board, the organizational structure of CTC and understanding the work groups they will be expected to populate.
Initial Work Groups include: Risk & Protective Factor (Data), Resource Assessment, Community Outreach & PR, Community Board Maintenance, Youth Involvement and Funding.
The next step for the board is to create a Community Profile.
Work Groups will use local, state and regional data to tease out the specific risk factors that impact local youth, identify community resources that will address those risk factors and develop strategies to address any gaps. Additionally the work will focus on enhancing Protective Factors which buffer youth from risk exposure. The largest data source will be the self-report youth behavior survey (Healthy Kids Colorado) which was administered in all sixth through 12th grade classrooms in the East & West School Districts last fall.
CTC work groups will begin organizing this month and continue to work on a need-be-basis throughout this assessment period.
We are still looking for interested community members who have specific expertise that will enhance the outcomes of the individual work groups.
Anyone interested in learning more about CTC or would like to be involved please contact me, Julie Hines at 970-725-3787 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
