Training for the worst
March 24, 2016
The Grand Lake Fire Department recently hosted a nationally recognized Initial Attack Incident Commander (IAIC) training course for 10 firefighters at the Grand Lake Fire Station. Participants for the training course were from Grand Lake and the Grand Fire departments. The course lasted a month and was focused primarily on wildland firefighting.
"The collaboration between fire districts has never been higher in the 13 years I've been the Chief with Grand Lake," said Grand Lake Fire Chief Mike Long. "Grand Fire has been hosting an ongoing Officer Development Program and East Grand Fire has been very active drafting mutual aid agreements which will help formalize how all county response agencies work together on larger incidents." A special presentation was made during the course by Rocky Mountain National Park Fire Management Officer Mike Lewelling on risk management during emergency incidents.
