On Sunday, Sept. 13, Grand County Republicans gathered for their annual Pig-In-The-Park BBQ at Polhamus Park in Granby. In addition to the sumptuous pulled-pork BBQ catered by Maverick’s Restaurant, attendees heard from speakers: U.S. Senate candidate, Darryl Glenn; State GOP chairman, Steve House; and renowned constitutional law professor, Robert “Rob” G. Natelson.

U.S. Senate candidate Darryl Glenn is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, served 21 years on active duty, has earned an MBA and a law degree, and has served several years on the Colorado Springs City Council. His rousing stump speech drew several rounds of enthusiastic applause from the party faithful.

Chairman House explained how computer data bases are revolutionizing get-out-the-vote efforts. Professor Natelson explained how Article V of the U.S. Constitution provides for a Convention of the States that can be called by a majority of state legislatures with a view toward bringing the powers of the three branches of the U.S. government back into balance.

In addition to listening to speakers Glenn, House, and Natelson, the attendees took part in a presidential preference straw poll.

The straw poll produced these results: Ben Carson, 45 percent; Marco Rubio, 15 percent; John Kasich, 13 percent; Jeb Bush, 11 percent; Carly Fiorina, 8 percent, Donald Trump, 6 percent, and Ted Cruz, 2 percent.
