Annual State Chili Cook-off results from Grand Lake

Judges test the chili during the Annual State Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, June 23, at Grand Lake's town park. The chili contest, beer and food tents raised as much as $6,000 for the Grand Lake Fire district's scholarship fun.

Grand Lake Fire hosted its Annual State Chili Cook-off in the Grand Lake town park on Saturday, June 23, and experienced a successful turnout, according to Grand Lake Fire spokesperson Mindy Everhart.

The event is an annual fundraiser for the Grand Lake Fire Scholarship and Community Assistance Fund, and although totals were not yet final as of Monday, June 25, the event raised about $6,000 for the fund.

In 2005, Grand Lake Fire created the scholarship fund as a way to give back to the community. “The focus of the fund is to help the youth of our community to participate in school-related functions where they might not otherwise have the opportunity, if our assistance was not available,” Everhart said.

The State Chili Cook-Off co-hosted with the Colorado Chili Pod is the scholarship fund’s primary fundraiser during the year.

“The weather was beautiful, the chili was tasty, the band was fantastic and fun was had by all,” Everhart said.
