Anonymous flier contains false information
February 9, 2009
A recent anonymous mailing has gone out to some second homeowners in the Fraser Valley that contains false information about me, Beth Sands, and the board of directors of the Fraser Valley Metropolitan Recreation District.
I think it’s time to respond after a year of being personally attacked both in public meetings, in allegations made in the newspaper and in other anonymous statements.
The letter that was mailed out by a “no name” entity attacks me personally and my reputation as a contributing individual in Grand County. This anonymous “attack” mailing claims the rec district “shredded” executive session documents and that I violated Colorado’s conflict of interest laws. No documents have been shredded and I have not violated any conflict of interest laws. This was stated publicly at the last rec board meeting and backed up by the rec district’s legal counsel.
I have volunteered for the community in many aspects for the last 10 years as Girl Scout leader and helping in the recreation district. I was honored to be elected to the recreation board three years ago and have put a lot of time into creating a great environment for our community. I am a single mother and both of my children have been through many of the rec programs that they offered over the years. Now they are volunteering themselves for the programs.
As a single mother, I have to make a living for my children. I was offered a real estate position with Cornerstone more than a year ago in marketing residential sales. As a recreation board member, before I ever accepted the position at Cornerstone, I received legal advice to see how to handle myself regarding the conflict of interests coming up. I followed the advice of legal counsel the whole time I worked for Cornerstone and, in August of last year, I was laid off from my position at Cornerstone. Since then I have not been able to find a full-time job and have been trying to make ends meet for myself and my family.
Please know that I am honest, open and extremely tired of being attacked in this manner. Is this what public servants can expect?
Such anonymous (spineless) and false attacks should say something to Fraser Valley citizens about the people behind this needless recall.
