Art Out of Thin opens in Tabernash
Rebecca KohlSky-Hi NewsThe Art Out of Thin Air artist group opened its 4th Annual Art Show at the Pole Creek Golf Course on Tuesday night. Art from 25 local artists are on display now through Aug. 1 and includes pottery, fine woodworking, fabric art, watercolors and various other mediums.Donna Lyons was awarded People’s Choice for her plein air watercolor titled, “Murphy’s Meadow.” Lyons said she painted her watercolor on County Road 59 overlooking the meadow on John and Carolyn Murphy’s Ranch, south of Granby. Lyons is a retired art and kindergarten teacher from Grand Lake Elementary. “I am very happy that people liked the painting,” was her reaction to winning the award. “I waited a long time to paint freely like I am able to do now,” she added. “I am having a really good time with my art,” now that she has time to paint.She won first and second place for two of her plein art pieces in the Longmont Artist Guild/St Stephen’s Art Show and Artist’s Choice Award at Plein Air Artists Colorado annual art retreat.The Artist Choice Award went to Sheryl Dahman for her multi-medium on canvas piece titled, “The Opening.” She used a combination of acrylic and watercolor, and gesso for texture.It was her first art award and she is thrilled to win. Dahman is an eight year resident of Grand Lake and enjoys being creative. Painting is a way of expressing herself she said. After creating her award winning piece, Dahman said she felt inspired and “filled with light.” Art Out of Thin Air is a casually structured group according to member Carolyn Sunderland. The group is open to all and consists of more than 70 artists from all corners of the county, representing all art mediums. The 4-year-old group gives artists a chance to support one another and gives them a way to network. The group is supportive and inspiring for artists at any level, whether they are seasoned or just getting started.”You can’t die with your music in you,” said seasoned artist Lyons.
