ATF, CBI help investigate Greeley-area fires

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) – Investigators are trying to determine whether six fires this week in the Greeley area are connected.

Investigators believe the fires may have been intentionally set.

Three fires, including two that joined to form a 1,000-acre wildfire that gutted an empty farm home east of Greeley, occurred Thursday. On Saturday, three small fires started around 3 a.m. near 83rd Avenue on the western outskirts of Greeley.

Two Weld County fire departments are collaborating with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the U.S. Forest Service and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation on the investigations.
