August First Friday event to celebrate music, raise money for charity
Whether it’s country, rock or pop, this month’s First Friday event is unofficially dedicated to the music lovers of Grand County.
Hosted by Uptripping, an art and furnishings store in downtown Winter Park, First Friday will feature 10 local artists’ works, live music, drinks and food. The event starts at 6 p.m. on Aug. 3.
The local artists will each contribute a piece following this month’s theme of music and instruments. The pieces will be auctioned off and the proceeds will be split evenly between the artist and a charity of the artist’s choosing.
Shannon Henn, the owner of Uptripping, said last month’s First Friday was very successful, both in the large crowd it drew and the amount of money raised for local charities. Henn said about $2,300 was raised for seven local charities, including Grand County Pet Pals.
“We want to keep the party going,” Henn said. “We hope that everyone who was here last time comes back out and more. If we can raise a few bucks for charity, then we’re all happy. Our goal is just a fun block party.”
The event is free to attend and Uptripping will be serving complimentary drinks. Music for the event will be provided by Eagle Wind Sound and food will be available to purchase from Stuffed food truck.
