Following formal allegations of sexual misconduct made by at least two women late last year, State Sen. Randy Baumgardner may now be facing potential disciplinary action.

An external investigation into the allegations, which were first reported in November, found one of the women’s complaints credible, according to public radio station KUNC. Baumgardner represents Colorado’s 8th Senate District, which includes Grand County, and also resides outside of Hot Sulphur Springs.

It was initially reported that Baumgardner, a Republican, allegedly slapped and grabbed the buttocks of a legislative aide about four times during the 2016 legislative session inside the Colorado State Capitol building during work hours, the complaint alleges. The complaint was filed anonymously, which is allowed by the formal complaint process.

A Senate staff member told the anonymous complainant on Tuesday that “the evidence suggests there should be a consequence,” according to KUNC.

The Denver Post independently confirmed the results of the investigation.
