Be an IKON: Winter Park Resort debuts new ski pass to rival Vail’s Epic Pass

The pass will be good at 23 resorts in nine states and three Canadian provinces. The total acreage is 48,840 with 2,790 trails accessed by 434 chairlifts:

Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass and Buttermilk from Aspen Skiing Co.

Alterra Mountain Co.’s resorts of Steamboat, Winter Park, Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain, Big Bear Mountain, Stratton, Snowshoe, Tremblant, Blue Mountain, Deer Valley Resort and the CMH Heli-Skiing.

The affiliated, independent ski areas are Copper Mountain Resort, Eldora Mountain Resort, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Big Sky Resort, Killington Resort, Sunday River, Sugarloaf, Loon Mountain Resort, Alta Ski Area and Snowbird.

Winter Park Resort’s parent company, Alterra Mountain Company, announced a new ski pass Thursday that will connect Alterra’s 12 ski destinations, along with another 11 premier partners.

Named the Ikon Pass, it will give patrons access to nearly 50,000 acres of terrain to ski and snowboard across the United States and Canada.

The pass will go on sale this spring, though details such as price points, a specific on-sale date and limitations at each mountain are yet to be announced, according to Steve Hurlbert, director of public relations and communications at Winter Park Resort.

“The Ikon Pass is a seismic shift in the winter sports industry and Winter Park Resort is elated to be one of the 23 world-class destinations included in this historic pass,” said Hurlbert. “Not only does it offer Winter Park faithful a chance to visit great resorts throughout the U.S. and Canada, it gives us a chance to demonstrate Winter Park’s special uniqueness to new visitors from across the country and around the globe.”

The pass includes access to the entire Alterra collection including Winter Park Resort, Steamboat, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain, Big Bear Mountain Resort, Stratton, Snowshoe, Tremblant, Blue Mountain, Deer Valley Resort and CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures.

The Ikon Pass also includes partner destinations like Aspen Snowmass, Copper Mountain, Eldora, Jackson Hole, Big Sky Resort, Killington Resort, Sunday River, Sugarloaf, Loon Mountain Resort, Alta Ski area and Snowbird.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to collaborate with some of the world’s finest destinations, creating truly unique mountain experiences,” said Dave Fields, general manager of Snowbird in Utah.
