Ben Dugan: Thank you for attending my book signing, Berthoud Pass
I want to thank everyone who attended the Berthoud Pass book signing and discussion last week at Cozens Ranch. There were about 18 person in attendance including Tim Nicklas from Hot Sulphur Springs museum and Cozens Ranch Museum’s manager, Kristi Martens. They were excellent hosts and a good time was had by all learning and discussing the history of Berthoud Pass. A couple came from as far away as Parshall and told the story of how the husband used to haul gasoline from Denver to Parshall back in the day over Berthoud and how it took seven hours. The gear ratio was so low on the truck that she could walk next to it on the old road during the descent into Grand County. One person from Denver was interested in the sites of the campgrounds. Robbers Roost was the site of the old work camp for building the highway in the early 1920s.
I learned a lot of new things and am most appreciative for everyone’s attendance. .
