Berthoud Pass opens two lanes

WINTER PARK, 11 A.M. – One lane opened on U.S. 40 at Berthoud Pass where a slide earlier today closed the entire highway, about seven miles east of Winter Park.
The Colorado Department of Transportation is alternating eastbound and westbound traffic through the area. However, a large boulder remains on the highway and equipment is on the way to break it up into smaller pieces for removal.
Heavy runoff this past weekend (June 25-June 26) peaked in the high country, which caused snowmelt carrying mud and rock debris to slide down the slope onto the roadway.
