U.S. Highway 40 over Berthoud Pass, which was closed in both directions at about 11:30 a.m. this morning, has been reopened and the chain law is now in effect, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The closure was put in effect due to multiple weather-related accidents on the east side of the pass and so CDOT crews could complete avalanche-control work.

Vail Pass was shut down for a while in both directions Tuesday because of the weather and multiple accidents, and Loveland Pass on U.S. Highway 6 was closed earlier in the day because of the storm, which forecasters predicted could dump from 8 to 24 inches of snow in the mountains around Grand County.
