Berthoud Pass rollover sends one man to hospital

Winter Park, Colorado ” An early Monday morning accident atop Berthoud Pass sent one man to a Denver hospital in serious condition.

The victim was involved in a single-vehicle rollover accident near the summit of the pass on U.S. Highway 40 about 8:45 a.m.

After radio consultation with physicians at 7 Mile Medical Clinic at Winter Park Resort, the injured man was rushed by Grand County EMS ambulance from Berthoud Pass to St. Anthony’s Central Hospital in Denver.

Riding in the vehicle, described as a construction pickup, a second man suffered minor injuries and refused transport to Denver.

The identities of the two accident victims and their hometowns have not yet been released by authorities.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol. Road conditions on U.S. Highway 40 near the summit of Berthoud Pass on Monday morning were snowpacked and icy.
