BLM seeks comment on proposed Gore Canyon Whitewater Park

KREMMLING— The next step in creating a whitewater park near Gore Canyon begins this week.

The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on its environmental assessment of the proposed Gore Canyon Whitewater Park at the Pumphouse Recreation area through Feb. 28. Grand County recently received water rights for constructing the park, which would use engineered boulders and concrete blocks to create play holes and waves for boaters. The design also ensures the features won’t be visible at normal flows, and allows for fish migration at all flow levels. Construction is set to begin in fall of 2014.

A copy of the preliminary assessment is available at http://www.blm.gov/CO/KFO. Staff with the BLM noted comments specifically about the proposal and its alternatives will be most helpful for future planning and construction. Comments should be addressed to Annie Sperandio, Realty Specialist, Kremmling Field Office, P.O. Box 68, Kremmling, CO 80459.
