BLM to burn slash piles north of Granby

Granby, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management’s Kremmling Field Office is planning to burn eight slash piles sometime between Feb. 13 and Feb. 17, if weather conditions are favorable. The slash piles are on BLM-managed land four miles north of Granby about one-half mile southeast of the C Lazy U Ranch.

The slash piles near Willow Creek Reservoir remain from a mechanical fuel reduction project in 2010.

BLM Fuels Specialist, Kevin Thompson said, “We already have snow on the ground, now we need to wait for the other weather factors to line up.” Snow around the slash piles keeps the fire contained to that area.

A burn plan for this project has been prepared and approved. The plan specifies the desired weather and wind conditions, as well as other guidelines for safe and efficient operations. Colorado State Air Pollution Division smoke permits have also been obtained.
