Blues Society announces winter music events
October 22, 2010
After a hot summer of musical events, the Grand County Blues Society is ready to kick off the winter season. It all starts with Saturday Oct. 23 show starring Larry Garner. Louisiana Hall of Fame artist and a Grand Co. favorite. We also made it our first ever “Ladies Night” ladies get in free and everyone else is only $10. Of course GCBS members get in free.
We are also selling for the first time ever, a punch card. This card is $50 and gets you into any five shows. You can buy them at the door on Saturday or from a board member.
Upcoming shows include Easy Bill and The Big Beat on Nov. 12th, this is part of the Winter Park Fraser Valley Chamber’s Annual dinner. Show is free to anyone that buys a ticket to the dinner. Everyone else is in for $5.
Dec. 9 -16 is Blues in the School Week. We are bringing in two of the acts from Blues From the Top to help make this a very special week. First J.P Soars will come to the schools and teach a class in guitar making. These guitars will be cigar box style and will be decorated by some of Grand County’s most talented artists as well as some of the artistic students. We will assemble them and then sell them to raise money for our Blues in The School programs. We are doing this with money we received from a grant from The Grand Foundation. J.P. will be doing a show at the Circle H in Granby on Dec. 9 and Dec. 10 J.P will perform at Smokin’ Moe’s. J.P. was one of the most popular shows at the festival and was the International Blues Challenge winner two years ago.
On Dec 15, festival superstar, Mike Zito is coming back. Mike recorded a live cd at Moe’s when he was here for the festival. The first and only live CD ever recorded at Moe’s will be released that night and thanks to Mike part of the sales will be donated to Blues in The School program. The GCBS has been doing shows and giving musical demonstrations in all of Grand County schools for over 8 years.
January will bring a legend to Smokin’ Moe’s, Sammy Mayfield. Sammy is a show that will be on the soulful side of the blues. February brings the Deanna Bogart Band in, with all world bassist, Scott Ambush from Spyra Gyra. March will see Trampled Under Foot for the annual Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday Blow Out.
A few other surprises are being worked on at this time and you can keep up with the GCBS at http://www.grandblues.org. Tickets are always on sale at Radio Shack in Fraser, Smokin’ Moe’s and Epic Sports in Winter Park.
