Bob Doubek – Name Granby Airport after Emily Howell Warner

To the Editor:

As a longtime general aviation pilot and Grand County property owner, I should like to take this opportunity to cast my vote for Emily Howell Warner as the new name for the recently improved Granby airport.

I have known Emily, and her husband Jay since 1972 when Emily gave me my FAA check ride for my aircraft Instrument Rating. The following year Emily was hired by Frontier Airlines and subsequently became the first female airline captain. Besides Frontier, Emily flew for Continental and as a check pilot for the FAA. Her many state and national honors attest to her dedication to aviation safety and professionalism.

Granby is one of approximately 5,000 public use airports in the United States and would be honored to be named after a nationally recognized aviation figure. Furthermore, the facts that the Colorado Pilot’s Association voted the Granby airport as one of two airports of the year in Colorado and proposed the name addition, in Emily’s honor, is a tribute to Emily, the Granby airport and to Grand County.
