Body identified as Dawn "Dan" Cone of Granby

The body Grand County Search and Rescue located and recovered on Friday, Feb. 8, has been identified by the Grand County Coroner’s Office as that of Dawn “Dan” Cone of Granby.

The cause of death was due to natural causes, according to a press release from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.

The search was initiated after Cone’s car was reported as being parked at mile marker 18 on Highway 125 since approximately Jan. 28.

Twenty-two members of Grand County Search and Rescue, with the assistance of a two-person tracking team from Larimer County Search and Rescue, initiated a search early Friday. The man was reported as missing at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

A ground search team located the subject three-quarters of a mile from the highway at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Friday. The man was transported to the highway by Grand County Search and Rescue members.

Six to eight inches of snow has fallen in the area since the man’s vehicle was reported as being parked on Highway 125.
