Boulder kayaker drowns in Lower Gore Canyon

A boater in an inflatable kayak drowned last Friday afternoon in Lower Gore Canyon near Radium.

Justin Brindley, 30, of Boulder was pronounced dead after being flown by Flight for Life to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver.

The incident took place on the Colorado River near the Needles Eye Rapid between Pumphouse and Radium. Brindley was boating with a larger group, but authorities say there were no witnesses to the accident.

A fisherman as well as another couple camping and fishing found Brindley’s body floating in the river. The couple rafted the body to a boat ramp and performed CPR, authorities say, and BLM personnel summoned an ambulance.
