Boy falls 30 feet from Aspen Highlands lift tower

Aspen Times staff report
Aspen, CO Colorado

ASPEN – A 16-year-old boy apparently escaped serious injuries after falling 30 feet from a lift tower Tuesday at Aspen Highlands, authorities said.

The boy fell from the seventh tower of the Five Trees lift, said Pitkin County Sheriff’s Deputy Joe Bauer.

Initially there was concern that the victim would need to be airlifted to Grand Junction. A Flight for Life air ambulance helicopter was at the scene just in case, but it was not needed, Bauer said. A head CAT scan on the victim was negative, Bauer said.

The boy apparently climbed up the tower with a friend. The friend successfully returned to the bottom, but the victim, on his way down, missed a step and fell to the ground.

It was unclear what, if any injuries the victim suffered, Bauer said, noting that it did not appear that he was seriously hurt from the fall.
