Six people were injured ” one of them seriously ” in a collision Saturday night between an SUV and a shuttle van. As of Monday afternoon, police are still looking for the driver of the SUV, Brock Thomas Sprowl, 32, of Breckenridge, for whom an arrest warrant has been issued.

According to Breckenridge Police, witnesses reported that a red Jeep Cherokee traveling westbound on Ski Hill Road at about 7 p.m. lost control on a curve, slid across the eastbound lane and hit a Mountain Thunder Lodge shuttle head-on.

“It was a mess,” said Breckenridge Police spokeswoman Kim Green. Of the six injured, Green said the most serious was Sprawl’s passenger, who suffered a torn aorta and was airlifted to St. Anthony’s in Denver Saturday. The passengers in the shuttle, she said, suffered broken bones and lacerations when sandbags in the back of the shuttle flew forward on the impact. Most were not wearing seatbelts, she added.

Green said the driver apparently slipped away while witnesses were helping people in the shuttle.

“We know who he is and we have his vehicle impounded,” Green said.

Sprowl is being charged with a Class 5 felony hit-and-run; careless driving; and no proof of insurance.

Four people remain in the hospital following the crash, which is still under investigation by the Breckenridge Police.
