Breckenridge man dies in wreck on Highway 9

Summit Daily News Staff

A 57-year-old Breckenridge man died Tuesday following a fatal traffic accident on southbound State Highway 9. Colorado State Patrol Public Information Officer Nate Reid reported a 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup flipped while traveling around a bend in Blue River, colliding with a power pole.

“It traveled off the right side of the roadway for an unknown reason,” Reid said. “It looked like the driver might have possibly tried to get back on the roadway.”

Reid said the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene of the incident. He added that no drug or alcohol use was suspected, and no adverse road conditions were reported at the time of the crash.

The fatal crash closed traffic for five hours and triggered a power outage in the area. Tracy Trulove, a communications manager with the Colorado Department of Transportation said that the accident was reported at mile marker 82 at 5:16 p.m., with the road reopening at 10:07 p.m.

Summit County Coroner Regan Wood said officials were still investigating the incident.
