Chavez from WP Chamber nominated for Amy McDowell Award

Maria Chavez was nominated by Lindsey Stapay, Director of the Northwest Small Business Development Center due to her endless devotion for local business. As Membership Services Director over the past 14 years for the Winter Park & Fraser Chamber, Chavez maintains a Chamber membership base with a constant membership average of 340 members. She helped create and lead the Annual Business Expo with over 50 business exhibitors each year. She helped created and lead the Annual Speed Networking event that helps partnerships within the business community.
Additionally, she serves on the Board of the non-profit, Grand County Blues Society which brings in national, regional and local blues artists into Grand County to keep blues music alive in all ages. She is the Director of Blues In The School, which brings artists and educators into Grand County to educate students of all ages the origin of blues.
The Amy McDowell Award is a new award that will be presented at the Colorado SBDC Network Small Business Week Luncheon, in collaboration with the SBA each year. Amy McDowell was a long-time employee of the SBA Colorado District Office and worked closely with the SBDC Centers for many years. She passed away suddenly last winter and this award has been created in her memory.
This award is presented to someone who is dedicated to the mission of serving small businesses in the State of Colorado, in the manner in which Amy did.
