In March, Mountain Moon Yoga celebrates 14 years in Winter Park.
“Over the years we have been very fortunate to have members of Grand County and beyond supporting our group classes, donation classes, workshops, private sessions, international retreats and teacher training,” said Margaret Strom, owner of Mountain Moon Yoga.
Through all of these avenues Strom has helped so many people learn to live a happy, healthy, more mindful life. In addition, as part of karma yoga, she has contributed over $10,000 to non-profit organizations in Grand County such as Mountain Family Center, Hospice, CASA, Mountain Pet Rescue, Pet Pals, Colorado Headwaters Land Trust, Grand County Friends of the Library and Grand County Concert Series.
Strom sponsored the William Hume free concert in early March as part of the Grand County Concert Serires where 40 kids and 140 adults attended. She collected $1,500 to sponsor William Hume.
Beginnings
Strom started practicing yoga to deal with the stress of graduate school and in 1996 formed the Grand County Yoga Co-op. She began teaching the same year and when the co-op dissolved, Mountain Moon Yoga opened its doors in its current location in the upstairs courtyard at Winter Park Station
For the last 16 years, in addition to studio hours she has been teaching private classes throughout Grand County. Twice a week Strom drives to Hot Sulphur Springs (yoga class in the Old Court House lunch room) and Grand Lake (yoga class at the fire station) once a week to teach a group class with regular attendees who have been coming for years, she said.i
Strom has classes in Winter Park for all shapes, sizes, abilities, stiffness, and flexibility, she said.
“It is the process of getting to know yourself. Yoga is self discovery.” The March issue of Yoga Journal mentions Mountain Moon Yoga as the “go-to yoga studio in Winter Park.”
