Sky-Hi News Staff Report

Municipal elections are right around the corner for most Grand County residents.

Residents who live in Grand Lake will head to the polls Tuesday April 5 to choose a mayor and four trustees to serve as the community’s governing board. The Grand Lake Women’s Club is planning a candidate forum prior to the election to offer voters an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates and to hear from those seeking elected office.

The candidate forum will be held on Tuesday March 15 at 7 p.m. at the Grand Lake Fire Station. The forum will be moderated by retired school teacher and Grand Lake area resident Neil Cross. The format of the forum will feature preselected questions and questions fielded from the audience.

Running for Mayor of Grand Lake in 2016 are two candidates: Jim Peterson and incumbent Judy Burke. Running for the four trustee seats are five candidates: Dustin Barnes, Jim Gasner, Thomas Goodfellow, Stephan Kudron and Kathleen Lewis.

Of the five candidates running for trustee both Gasner and Lewis are incumbents. The four trustee candidates with the highest vote tallies will fill the four open trustee seats on the board. Of those winning candidates the three with the highest vote tallies will serve four-year terms while the fourth winning candidate will serve a two-year term. The Mayor of Grand Lake serves a four-year term.
