City to stealth artist: Remove mystery sculptures

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) – OK, that was fun. Now, please remove the mystery sculptures.

That’s the message from city officials to the artist who secretly installed two sculptures in Boulder front yards. One 15-foot metal-wrapped post, with rusty chains, pieces of metal and lights at the top was left on Donna Coughlin’s front yard Saturday.

A similar sculpture was left Tuesday in front of a city museum.

Coughlin suspects University of Colorado graduate Mark Guilbeau, who left her a giant bug sculpture in 1987.

The city plans to remove the artwork if the stealth artist doesn’t claim it by Monday.

But Coughlin tells The Daily Camera she’s not ready to part with her sculpture, and questions whether the city can take it off her property.
