Colo. school bus crashes off icy highway, 12 hurt

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – Authorities say a bus carrying middle school basketball players slid off an icy road and rolled near Colorado Springs, injuring 12 people onboard.

A 31-year-old man with an arm injury was flown by helicopter to an area hospital following the Tuesday night crash but the Gazette reports he was later released from the hospital.

The crash happened as the bus was returning from a basketball game.

The Colorado State Patrol said the driver lost control and spun counterclockwise after attempting to slow for another vehicle. The patrol said the bus went off the highway and down an embankment before rolling onto its right side.

Ambulances took 11 of the passengers to area hospitals with mild to moderate injuries.
