Audiences can watch “The Nutcracker” and other masterpieces of ballet throughout the ages on a Grand Lake stage this weekend.

The Colorado Ballet Company will perform for one night only, Saturday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. The performance at Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre is in partnership with the Grand Lake Creative District.

Rocky Mountain Rep stated in a news release that professional dancers will perform excerpts from ballets based on folk tales and literary classics, while moving through the history of ballet.

“From the fantastical stories of the Romantic Era to the grand costuming and music of the Classical Era, to the free movement of the Modern Era, audiences will watch as stories come to life through the world of ballet,” the production company stated.

The educational and interactive program will feature an excerpt from “The Nutcracker,” a classic ballet. There will also be a few new contemporary works. The evening will conclude with an audience Q&A with the dancers.

“We’re really excited to be coming to Grand Lake for the first time,” said Gil Boggs, the company’s artistic director. “It’s great having this extra show at the end of our season.”

The ballet company has five productions each season, and now the performers can grace the stage together one last time in Grand Lake. Colorado Ballet is based in Denver and welcomes performers from around the world.
