Colorado health care lawsuit similar to Virginia’s

DENVER (AP) – Colorado’s joint lawsuit challenging the Obama administration’s health care law is similar to the case won by Virginia’s attorney general.

A federal judge sided with Virginia Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli on Monday in declaring the health care law unconstitutional.

Another lawsuit filed by 20 states, including Colorado, is still pending in Florida.

Mike Saccone, a spokesman for Colorado Attorney General John Suthers, said the basic argument in the two cases is the same. That is, that the federal government shouldn’t be able to punish people for economic inactivity, namely buying health care insurance.

Two other federal judges have upheld the law and the White House says the ruling doesn’t create uncertainty about its implementation.
