Colorado officials suspend river search for Indiana man

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) – Rescue crews have ended their search for a 25-year-old Indiana man who fell from an inner tube into Colorado’s Cache la Poudre River.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office says Brandon Bowie of Gary, Ind., was tubing behind a friend Sunday afternoon when they hit a rough area.

Authorities say both men’s tubes flipped over. Bowie’s friend was able to make it to shore after grabbing some bushes.

About 40 search and rescue personnel, including divers and two canine units, searched for Bowie Monday in roaring waters and debris-filled water. Small scale searches will resume as conditions allow.

Officials say warm weather across Colorado is melting snow and causing rivers to flow at high rates. The Poudre River was flowing Monday at nearly three times its normal pace for the date.
