Colorado Springs doctor gets prison for menacing family

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – A Colorado Springs doctor has been sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison for threatening his wife and three children with a shotgun.

George MacDonald pleaded guilty in October to menacing and third-degree assault. He was sentenced on Monday.

His wife testified at an earlier hearing that MacDonald cut telephone and threatened to set fire to the family’s house on the night of Nov. 9, 2008. She says he also threatened to shoot himself.

MacDonald expressed remorse during the sentencing hearing. A psychologist who evaluated him for the defense testified that MacDonald was dealing with depression and alcohol abuse.
