Colorado Springs Foster mother gets 32 years in death

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – A former foster mother has been sentenced to 32 years in prison for the death of a 2-year-old girl in her care.

Jules Lynn Cuneo was convicted Feb. 19 of child abuse and reckless manslaughter in the 2007 death of Alize Vick. During her sentencing Monday afternoon, prosecutors played recordings of verbal abuse that was secretly taped by a neighbor using a baby monitor.

Cuneo could be heard demanding that the 2-year-old use a complete sentence to ask that Cuneo get off. Prosecutors say Cuneo tossed Alize five feet across a living room, causing a fatal injury to Alize when she hit her head on a coffee table.

El Paso County last month agreed to pay $300,000 to Alize’s mother to settle a lawsuit.
