Colorado Springs mother gets 40 years in death of girl, 4

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – A 25-year-old woman has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for failing to stop the abuse that led to her daughter’s death.

Chrystie Marie Hardy pleaded guilty to child abuse in the January 2008 death of her 4-year-old daughter Madyson (MAD’-uh-son) Bogard. In handing down the sentence Thursday, 4th Judicial District Judge Robert L. Lowrey told Hardy she could have gotten help sooner for her daughter.

Hardy’s boyfriend Mark Alton Friend is serving a prison sentence for a first-degree murder conviction.

Investigators say Madyson had been repeatedly struck in the head, slammed against a door and bed frame and held under water. They say the abuse went on for 3 1/2 months.
