Colorado wildfire contained, but crews still on watch

CONIFER, Colo. (AP) – Jefferson County officials say a wildfire in the foothills west of Denver has been contained and power has been to restored to residents.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said Wednesday that about 20 to 25 firefighters are patrolling the perimeter of the fire.

High winds quickly spread flames across 10 to 12 acres, and the fire crept to within a few feet of houses in the Conifer area. About 340 homes were evacuated, but residents were allowed to return around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

No property damage or injuries were reported.

Authorities believe electrical wires downed by high winds started the fire, but they’re still investigating.
