Colorado’s health insurance exchange publicizes rates

Colorado residents can now compare state health insurance rates offered through the federally mandated Affordable Care Act.
Connect for Health Colorado, the state’s health insurance exchange marketplace, released available insurance plans and monthly premium rates on Friday, Aug. 16. Coloradans can choose from 541 insurance plans from 18 providers. Individual plans for a 40-year-old non-smoker range from $177 to $705 a month. Catastrophic coverage, designed for individuals under 30 or older patients who meet certain requirements, ranges from $136 to $355 a month.
Open enrollment for the plans begins on Oct. 1, 2013. Health insurance coverage will be required for all U.S. citizens by Jan. 1, 2014, whether purchased individually or provided by employers. Some low-income individuals will be eligible for subsidies, which will further lower healthcare premiums.
