Consider both sides before criticizing deputy

I know that the deputy who had to use his firearm last week will be criticized by some.

Speaking from experience, if you never had to deal with an out-of-control mental patient, don’t be too fast to cast doubt on the deputy’s use of deadly force. Mental patients off of their meds can be capable of superhuman strength. In my 38 years of law enforcement, public and private, I have encountered several people who were half my weight and threw me around like a tennis ball.

Fortunately, where I worked help was only minutes away like in most big cities.

No law enforcement person wants to use deadly force but there are times when it can’t be avoided.
