Construction finishes on US Highway 40 passing lanes; final touches to be added in the spring

Construction of passing lanes on U.S. Highway 40 between Kremmling and Steamboat Springs has been completed for the season, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Additional work will resume in the spring, including seeding and shoulder work, according to a news release.

The passing lane project is west of Kremmling and north of Wolford Mountain Reservoir from mile points 172-173.

Colorado Department of Transportation Regional Director Jason Smith said the construction of passing lanes will allow for the safer transportation of commercial and freight trucks on the busy corridor. Smith also stated that the project is part of a 10-year plan for improvements in Grand County.

The project cost an estimated $11.5 million.
