Construction on I-70 to cause heavy delays through Tuesday

The Colorado Department of Transportation is cautioning drivers that there will be heavy delays on the I-70 corridor in Idaho Springs.

CDOT continues to work on the Westbound I-70 Mountain Express Lane project and expects up to two hour delays from Sunday through Tuesday.

CDOT will be closing lanes for paving work and on Monday and Tuesday, the interstate will be down to a single lane in both directions.

From 3 p.m.-6 a.m. Sunday, there will be a single lane westbound closure and the eastbound will be down to one lane starting 8 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday night. From 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, westbound traffic will be down to one lane.

Due to the extensive closures, CDOT is expecting up to two-hour delays and cautions drivers to avoid traveling during work hours if possible.

In addition, CDOT said there will be no lane closures during the holidays, beginning Dec. 23-28 and Dec. 31-Jan. 3.
