County caucuses are Tuesday

The Republican and Democratic parties of Grand County will hold precinct caucuses on Tuesday, March 16, across the 12 precincts in the county.Caucuses are open to everyone, but only registered voters within each party can vote.The caucus at each precinct starts at 7 p.m., although sign-in and preliminary discussion of issues often starts about 6:30 p.m.The caucus is the first step in selecting people to represent each precinct at the County Assembly, and eventually at the State Assembly.The caucus also selects precinct committee persons for the coming two years. These are the platoon leaders for each party. Democratic Party caucus locations:• Precincts One and Ten will be at the Town Hall in Grand Lake.• Precincts Two, Three and Eight (Hot Sulphur) will be at the Granby Library community room.• Precincts Four and Five will convene at Kremmling Library community room. • Precincts Six, Seven, Nine, Eleven and Twelve are at Fraser Valley elementary.Although precincts can pool locations for efficiency, each precinct votes independently on both candidates and platform issues.The Republican caucus locations:• Precincts One and Ten will be at the Grand Lake Fire House, 201 W. Portal Ave.• Precinct Two will be at the Grand County Road & Bridge shop, 469 E. Topaz Av., Granby.• Precinct Three will be at the Granby Community Center, 125 N. 3rd Street.• Precinct Four will be at the West Grand PK-8 School, 715 Kinsey Ave., Kremmling.• Precinct Five will meet at the CSU Extension Hall, Middle Park Fair Grounds, Kremmling.• Precinct Six will convene at Winter Park Town Hall, 50 Vasquez Ave.• Prceinct Seven will be at Grand Park Community Recreation Center, 216 Eisenhower Drive, Fraser.• Precinct Eight meets at Grand County Title, 129 E. Byers Ave., Hot Sulphur Springs.• Precinct Nine will meet at the Baptist Church, 100 Doc Susie Ave., Fraser.• Precinct Eleven will gather at YMCA of the Rockies Administration Building.•Precinct Twelve will be at the Fraser Valley Library, 421 Norgren Road, Fraser.Selection of candidates and development of issues for the platform of the local and state parties both take place at caucuses. These issues, which will be consolidated at the County Assembly, spell out the actions of government that the parties favor or oppose. Opposing views are put to a vote, and the majority opinion moves forward to the next level.The Republican County Assembly will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 28, at West Grand High School.The Democratic County Assembly will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, in the Granby Library Community Room.Not sure of what precinct you are in?
