Crews contain wildfire in northwest Colorado
MAYBELL, Colo. (AP) – Crews have contained a wildfire in northwest Colorado that quickly spread to thousands of acres.
The fire grew to 7,917 acres, or about 12 square miles, after a lightning strike Wednesday 10 miles north of Maybell in Moffatt County. Crews declared the fire 100 percent contained Thursday afternoon.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management says crews worked until 2 a.m. Thursday building a fire line.
Crews were able to keep a ranch house from burning but an outbuilding was destroyed.
