Thanks to better weather conditions, crews on the ground at the Silver Creek Fire have been able to strengthen the fireline on the southwest side of the fire.

Crews yesterday were able to improve the fireline along Forest Road 100 and complete fireline to the west of Old Park. Bulldozers and logging equipment will continue to be used to construct more fireline today on the south and west sides of the fire near Forest Road 185.

Currently, the fire is almost 4,800 acres and it remains 5 percent contained. The number of personnel on the fire has grown to almost 450. Officials report that no structures have been lost or damaged yet.

A slight amount of rain has fallen over the fire area, which helps wet the fuel and contain the fire, but may also bring winds that would increase fire activity.

“We do expect increased wind after (the storms), but with the increased moisture it should combat that quite a bit,” said Chip Redmond, incident meteorologist at the Silver Creek Fire, in an update on the fire’s Facebook page.

Successful burn operations helped to strengthen the fireline yesterday and, if conditions are right today, firefighters may utilize further burnout operations to help clear fuel from the area in between the firelines and the edge of the fire.

Air resources remain vital to fighting the fire by dropping water and retardant where necessary.

Latigo Ranch, Old Park and the Gore Lakes area remain evacuated.
